museum visitng

& some weekend snaps

This past weekend we continued on our month long 3 year anniversary celebrations with going to the Museum of Contemporary Art on Saturday & the Art Institute of Chicago on Sunday. Bank of America has a promotion that if you have their debit or credit card you can visit a number of Museums for free the first full weekend of every month. So, since the weather decided to feel like Fall instead of Spring, it was a perfect couple days to get cozy inside and explore art. Truth be told, the Museum of Contemporary Art was not our favorite, and I just noticed there's only one picture here (bottom right in the last picture) but we loved the Art Institute! G even got almost yelled at by a security guard for getting a little too close to a sculpture. haha! It was hilarious! Life is so fun with you, g! I loved seeing all the peonies blooming around the city, and catching new angles of the Bean to capture. Also, this past week I started by internship at Cornerstone (that's where the fancy flats & bag picture comes from) which has been a fun adventure thanks to my fellow interns who are great!

loved this glorious light
^ this is the one that almost got g in trouble! ^
the Monet's were my favorite

After church on Sunday we also visited Elly's Pancake House for the first time, finally! This place is popular among the Moodies, but we've never ventured into this infamous breakfast stop. Oh my goodness it was amazing! The best syrup I might have ever had! & Brunch has officially become my favorite meal of the day. Yay! Thank you Bank of America for a weekend for free Museum seeing. It was fun & we can't wait to do it again soon!

national donut day confessed

I ate a donut to celebrate national donut day and did not like it, for the second year in a row! What the heck?! I have no luck with this. lol Here's what happened. Last year I was so excited when I woke up and found endless donuts on my Instagram feed of people sharing their donuts in celebrating this day! It was perfect because I had just discovered a hotel that sold Glazed and Infused donuts off Michigan and had been wanting to try them out for a while, so this was the perfect day to do it. I passed by on my way to work excited to see the little bakery full of people. I decided to order the Pistachio Praline over the infamous Bacon Maple because it just looked so good. However, I was disappointed and it was not the greatest flavor I've ever had in my life, which is what I was expecting. (I often have high expectations which lead to many disappointments, but I'm working on that.)

This year I was not going to make the same disappointing mistake again of trying out something new I wasn't sure I loved. So I planned to stop by Firecakes to get my current favorite, Old Fashion Buttermilk, after my internship. Well, It was about 5:30 pm when we walked in to find they sold out of all their donuts. ALL OF THEM. Accept of course, their famous ice cream donut sandwich which looked amazing! So I gladly pushed my last year disappointment memories aside, took some pictures with the glorious looking thing, and bam! Tasted it & it was...ok. Really! Nothing special about the donut or ice cream. Tears! Two years of disappointing national donut days... But that's ok because I will be stopping by Firecakes again this week for my favorite & celebrate all good things donuts have to offer...

Happiness
Cheer
& Calories.

I could do without the last bit but that's just the way it is. & this was a way too long post about donuts, so I'm going to stop typing... now.

weekend snaps

This past weekend was one for the books. Or blogs? For remembering...

Saturday AND Sunday afternoon was spent at the lake, a glorious Chicago weather miracle because it has been cold all week (by cold I mean in the 60's) and rarely does the warm air decide to breath on the 2 full days we have to spend together. Friday, we strolled through the city, got some Garrets Popcorn for me & randomly decided to watch Maleficent which was good, but not what we expected (hint: they changed most of the story line.) The Blackhawks lost game 7 last night (negative) but I think I'm getting the hang of the new Canon given to me by Fabz (positive!) Plus - Anthropologie is making our kitchen cuter & cuter by the month, newly bringing our NYC memories into our Midwest abode. It was a sweet weekend together. One I will cherish as we welcome in June.

four things

top left: Happy anniversary month! Every time June comes around it's always special because it's the month we became each others hubby & wifey for life. It's amazing to realize this 25th of June marks three years of marriage to g. Three years! - the hardest & best years of my life. I don't think it's easy for those who aren't married to understand what that really means, and I sure didn't realize what people meant by "marriage is hard work" until we entered into this divine reality together. But by God's grace in our lives we are learning how to love like He loves, forgive like He does, & serve each other willingly by remembering that God comes first, the other second and us third. I'm so excited to celebrate how far we've come & also to explore what gifts to give this year inspired by leather! I think it'll be fun!

top right: Fresh eating! I'm not gonna lie - this year has been the hardest for me to enter into consistently eating healthy & exercising. Especially with being home last week, who could resist their Mom's delicious home cooked meals? Those rice & beans & strogonoff & mayonnaise & BBQ from Daddy...I couldn't say no! I mean, that would boarder on disrespectful right? Maybe? Well, outside of last week, I'm really not sure why I've been so resistant to make the effort to stay active & eat well, but this month I really want to fight the laziness & get back to eating right. With prospects of a trip to Brazil in August, that's really good motivation to get back in shape, right?! I think, yes!

bottom left: Cactus & succulents! If you follow me on intsagram you've probably seen that we bought a succulent last month. We really felt like new parents, entrusted to take care of this new life in our home. We named our little succulent Margot Magic, her first name was chosen because I love it & g doesn't so since we wont be naming our future child Margot our plant gets the name! Her middle name is inspired by Coldplay's "Magic" which was playing when we named her. We love her so. But she died. Yep. Died! I don't know what happened but I think we didn't give her enough water and maybe the pot we had her in was too big. It's pretty sad loosing your first plant, but we are not giving up on this! Hopefully we'll be picking up another succulent soon to love on & hopefully - keep alive! Pray for us. We need wisdom! (In more areas than one)

bottom right: Picnics! This summer there will be picnics! Every year we, well I, talk about how much I want us to have one on the beach, or at the park, or watching a concert at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion. But we never get around to doing it. Our first semester at Moody I even got an old picnic basket for FREE (you know how I love my free-bees!) but we haven't used it once! But this summer we're doing big things, and this includes picnics! Please, g? ;)

happy June 1st to all!
